Montreal, August 30, 2011. The Canadian-Italian Business & Professional Association (CIBPA) was one of the first Italian organizations to found a bursary program to promote education among Italian students. The program was founded in 1961 by a handful of CIBPA members including Messrs. Antonio Capobianco; Alfredo Gagliardi and Me Raffaele Esposito. These business men and professionals were pioneers in laying the foundation to what could become one of the most successful bursary programs in the Italian community in Canada.
In the first year of the bursary program, four bursaries were awarded for a total of 1000 dollars. Since then, the program distributed 2.7 million dollars and was able to award 1700 bursaries to young students of Italian origin. An outstand contribution to the education of professional and business persons working in various socio-economic sectors throughout Quebec society.
In occasion of the 50th anniversary of its Bursary Program, the CIBPA aims to distribute 50 bursaries to 50 young university students.
In June 21, 2011 a fundraiser cocktail for the 50th anniversary of the bursary program was organized. The cocktail brought together many business persons who were eager to carry on this worthy and noble cause. The president of the program, Mr. Gian Carlo Biferali, and the President of CIBPA, Mr. Giovanni Chieffallo were pleased to announce that Mr. Mariano A. De Carolis, Director General of the Caisse populaire Desjardins Canadienne Italienne is the Honorary President of the 50th anniversary of the Bursary Gala.

CIBPA and I Servizi Comunitari at the Settimana Italiana of Montreal

Again this year the Canadian-Italian Business and Professional Association along with I Servizi Comunitari Italo-Canadesi participated in the Settimana Italiana during the closing weekend of festivities.
CIBPA was promoting its Bursary Program to the considerable number of people walking on St.Laurent street in Little Italy. The CIBPA celebrates this year 50th anniversary of its Bursary Program and aims to distribute 50 bursaries to Canadian students of Italian origins.
Among the various friends and personalities who came to visit the stand, we had the pleasure to meet Frank Cavallaro and Soeur Angèle, who was on the cover of last issue of PanoramItalia for her great artistry in cuisine (see pictures below).
We wish to thank Giovanni Chieffallo, Dr. Giuseppe Maiolo, Luisa Papa, Joe Papa, Alessandra Tropeano, Felicia Tropeano for their participation and their precious assistance during that weekend.
It was a pleasure to take part in this important event that celebrates the Italian culture and tradition which is appreciated by festival-goers of all origins!

Round Table with Hon. Ted Menzi, Minister of State for finance

Several members of our association - small business owners, self employed and professionals - met on Tuesday, August 9th with the Minister of State for finance, Hon. Ted Menzies, for a round table discussion on financial issues.
The participants had the opportunity to listen to the Minister discuss the main financial issues affecting the country and reforms such as the Pooled Pension Plan.
Main goal of the roundtable, however, was for members not only to listen but also to ask questions and bring potential policies that they would like the government to enact to help their small and medium size businesses.
The event took place at 400, Place d'Youville in the Old Port of Montreal, from 1pm to 2:30pm.
